Dekati ELPI™ (Electrical Low Pressure Impactor)

ELPI™ (Electrical Low Pressure Impactor) is an instrument to measure airborne particle size distribution and concentration in real-time. It operates in the size range of 7 nm – 10 µm, and can be applied to various different types of measurements where the requirements for the instrument include wide particle size range and fast response time. Because of its rapid response, the ELPI™ is an ideal measurement instrument for the analysis of unstable concentrations and size distributions, or the evolution of size distributions. Typical applications for the ELPI™ include combustion aerosol and engine exhaust studies, pharmaceutical inhaler development, air quality measurements and general aerosol research.

elpi

In ELPI™ the well-known impactor technology is combined with particle charging and electrical detection. The result is a robust instrument to measure particle size distribution in a wide size and concentration range, accurately and in real-time. The use of impactor technology also enables post-measurement chemical analysis of size classified particles. The ELPI™ can also be used to measure particle charge distribution in real-time, and make gravimetric impactor measurements.

During the measurement, the ELPI™ instrument is completely controlled and data saved with easy-to-use ELPIVI software. Besides controlling the instrument operations, the ELPIVI enables monitoring of total concentration and particle size distribution of the sample in real-time. The software also enables operating of several ELPI™ units with one piece of software and sending the data or using the instrument over a network connection.

Outdoor Air ELPI™ (Electrical Low Pressure Impactor)

Dekati's Outdoor ELPI is a modified version of the standard ELPI™ instrument. Like the standard version, the Outdoor Air ELPI™ measures airborne particle size distribution and concentration in real-time. It operates in the size range of 7 nm – 10 µm with the filter stage accessory, and can be applied to various different types of measurements where the requirements for the instrument include a wide particle size range and fast response time. The Outdoor Air version is specially designed for ambient air measurements, although it can be used in other applications as well. The operating principle of the Outdoor Air ELPI™ is the same as that of ELPI™’s where the well-known impactor technology is combined with particle charging and electrical detection. Some features have been added to the Outdoor Air version to make it more suitable for ambient air monitoring:

Features

  • Higher sample flow rate (30 lpm) to increase sensitivity
  • Integrated humidity and temperature sensor for monitoring the sample
  • Option for stand-alone operation

Biral Aspect Particle Size and Shape Analyser

Simultaneously measures the size and shape of single airborne particles.

The Aspect particle analyser uses Biral’s ASAS technology to simultaneously measure the size and shape of single particles at a high output rate. The ASAS technology uses the complex pattern of the light scattered by particles in a laser beam. Analysis of the spatial pattern of the scattered light gives a measure of the asymmetry of the particle and the integrated intensity a measure of the particle size.

Met One Model 212 Eight Channel Particle Profiler

Ambient profiling of aerosol particulates has been simplified by the Met One Instruments Model 212 Ambient Particulate Profiler. The 212 sizes and counts particles in eight digital bins, and reports the information on command. Each of the eight channels may be field configured to customer requirements.

A Remarkably Flexible, Higher Performance Instrument Featuring:

  • Eight Real–Time Channels
  • Simple operation
  • Self–Contained
  • Weatherproof package
  • Low Power
  • Sheath air technology
  • Low Cost
  • 0.5μm to 10μm(typical) range, extended ranges available

Applications:

  • Air Quality Surveys
  • Ambient Monitoring
  • Emissions Sampling
  • Remote Monitoring
  • Work Place Monitoring

Two Models

Two models of the 212 Profiler are available, each with specific features. For general purpose outdoor applications the Model 212–1 is recommended. The 212–1 has a minimum sensitivity of 0.5 microns and will size particles up to 10 microns. Particles larger than 10 microns are counted, but sized as 10 microns. The 212–1 uses an extended life Laser Diode that provides 30,000 hours of life, three times the life of standard lasers. Additionally the 212–1 will operate reliably in elevated temperatures. For special applications the Model 212–2 has a minimum sensitivity of 0.3 microns. A lower wavelength Laser Diode is used in the 212–2 and will produce 10,000 hours of life. Special size ranges are available.

biral logo

Biral designs and manufactures a family of devices based on their unique ASAS (Aerosol Size And Shape) technology. The range of applications for these devices is broad but the principal markets are environmental monitoring, source apportionment, pharmaceutical research and development, process control, critical environment monitoring and scientific research.

Utilising their unique ASAS (Aerosol Size And Shape) technology, Biral has designed and is manufacturing the Aspect instrument - this instrument measures the shape of an airborne particle in real time, as well as size and total particle concentration. This instrument is truly unique in that it is the only commercially available aerosol characterisation system that measures particle shape and size. If this is then combined with the Biral AFS (Aerosol Fluorescence Sensor) which measures the fluorescence signature of the aerosol, this complete system is a very powerful particle research and characterization tool.
