Aurora 1000 Integrating Nephelometer

The Aurora 1000 is the ‘new generation’ integrating nephelometer which uses a single wavelength for visibility measurements at one of three user specified wavelengths

integrating nephelometer
  • 450nm (blue) for fine and ultra fine particulates (wood fires, automobiles)
  • 525nm (green) for visibility
  • 635nm (red) for large particulates (e.g. pollen, sea salt)

Differentiated in the marketplace by Ecotech’s innovative LED Light source design, the Aurora 1000 nephelometer provides higher reliability and stability in measuring local atmospheric visibility.

Aurora  PM Correlation Nephelometer

The Aurora PM Correlating Nephelometer is part of the ‘new generation’ nephelometers using a single wavelength to measure aerosol light scattering and derive particulate concentrations.

It is available in two configurations.

PM correlation nephelometer
  1. Aurora 1000F: Configured with a PM2.5 Size Selective Inlet (SSI) to sample PM2.5, ideal in areas with stable aerosol chemistry
  2. Aurora 2000: Configured to communicate directly with a BAM1020, providing 1 minute PM corrected data, ideal in areas with multiple aerosol sources

Configuration 1 - Aurora 1000RF, 1000GF, 1000BF

The Aurora 1000F is available with automatic flow control and a PM2.5 Size Selective Inlet. This configuration improves the correlation between the Aurora 1000F and Federal Equivalent PM2.5 Methods. It is available with a choice of light sources with different wavelengths ie 450, 525 or 700nm (Respectively 1000BF, 1000GF, 1000RF) pm 2.5 correlation nephelometer

This sampling method enables a manual correction factor to be entered in order to derive real time (1 minute) PM2.5 concentrations. In applications where the aerosol chemistry is stable this configuration provides excellent results with minimal maintenance and a high degree of correlation.

The Aurora Nephelometer employs a smart heater controlled by a relative humidity sensor, this allows the user to set the maximum relative humidity of the sampled air, eliminating the influence of water vapour on the measurement and thus performing a “dry measurement”.

Configuration 2 - Aurora 2000

In applications where aerosol chemistry is subject to change, a correction factor derived from manual sampling may be unreliable. nephelometer

The Automatic correlation PM nephelometer connects directly to the Met One BAM1020 in order to monitor and log PM hourly averages generated by a BAM1020 (PMBAM). These hourly averages are compared to the Aurora’s hourly average scattering coefficient (σscat) and a scattering to PM coefficient factor (CoefScat/PM) is calculated. This factor is then applied to the next hour of 1 min scattering coefficients measured in order to determine a 1 minute average for PM concentrations (PMaurora). This data can also be used to determine changes in aerosol source through deviations in light scattering from the expected values.

Aurora 3000 Three wavelength nephelometer (with backscatter)

The Aurora 3000 three wavelength nephelometer is the instrument of choice when analysis is required on a number of different contributors to air pollution or for studies regarding global warming using backscatter.

3 wavelength nephelometer with backscatter

Using an innovative LED light source, the Aurora 3000 simultaneously measures at 525nm (green), 450nm (blue) and 635nm (red) to enable wide and in-depth analysis of particulate matter. The Aurora 3000 includes backscatter measurement in the standard unit. Backscatter measurement allows the measurement of light scattered back towards the light source (90-170°) after colliding with particulate matter.

Aurora 4000 Polar Nephelometer

The Aurora 4000 polar nephelometer is the only commercially available polar nephelometer in the world. The polar nephelometer goes beyond simple integrated nephelometers and allows much more detailed measurements.

nepholometer 4000

The Aurora 4000 polar nephelometer uses integrated nephelometry combined with a multi-stage backscatter shutter to perform polar nephelometry measurements in different sectors, i.e. 30º, 60º, or 90º (Custom angles available on request). The Aurora 4000 polar nephelometer allows a greater insight into light scattering, this unique feature allows the analysis of parameters involved in climate studies such as the particle phase function used in global radiation balance measurements.
