The Aethalometer is used to measure suspended carbonaceous particulates including Aerosol Black Carbon (‘BC’ or ‘EC’). This technology uses continuous filtration and optical transmission to measure the concentration of BC in near real-time. Magee Aetholometers are designed for a number of specific applications:
AE22 Dual Wavelength
This instrument measures black carbon at 880nm and 370nm. These wavelengths allow many of the aromatic organic species to be measured i.e. tobacco smoke, fresh diesel exhaust, wood smoke etc.

AE31 Seven Wavelength
This Aethalometer measures at seven wavelengths ranging from 370nm to 950nm. This broad range facilitates the more accurate study of atmospheric optical properties, radiative transfer etc.

AE42 Portable Aethalometer
This Aethalometer can be easily setup and transported. The instrument can be fitted with either single, dual or seven wavelength measurement optics.
